Ioannis Kanellopoulos
Digital Earth and Reference Data Unit
Ioannis Kanellopoulos, is currently with the Digital Earth and Reference Data Unit of the of the EC Joint Research Centre leading a project that supports the coherent and interoperable implementation of Spatial Data Infrastructure in Europe (INSPIRE) and contributes towards the implementation of eGovernment/eEnvironment services. Ioannis has received a BSc degree in Cybernetics and Control Engineering from the University of Reading, Reading, UK, in 1983 and the MSc degree in Systems Engineering from The City University, London, UK, in 1984. Prior to working on the implementation of Spatial data Infrastructures Ioannis work concerned the research and development of advanced processing techniques for the analysis and interpretation of spatial data. He has published over 40 papers related to spatial data infrastructures, remote sensing, image processing and neural computation. In the last few years Ioannis has been a JRC Project Manager for a number of European wide projects Integrated projects GENESIS and ORCHESTRA and the Shared Cost Action Project Nature-GIS. He is currently chairing the INSPIRE (Infrastructure for Spatial Information in Europe) Initial Operating Capability Task Force (IOC TF) consisting of the organisations responsible for the implementation of INSPIRE at National level. The scope of the IOC TF is to help and support the implementation of INSPIRE in the EU Member States. |
